Hi,

The company you call 'Sytec' was really called 'Sytek'.
I worked at Sytek during the 1980s, before, during, and after the IBM project. They were indeed heady times, quite exciting for us.

One of our competitors in the corner of Mountain View, California (called 'LAN Lane') went on to much greater success, w/ its promotion of Ethernet: 3Com survives to this day, while Sytek has disappeared after being sold.
