early/mid 1980's
- IBM (remember them?) and Sytec (who?) co-developed a LAN system for PCs.
- Proprietary broadband LAN hardware
- Software interface via NetBIOS
(Network Basic Input Output
System)
- IBM created the Server Message Block
protocol for network filesharing.
- Originally the BAF protocol
- Simple file I/O primitives (DOS calls?)
