November 2006 Update:
Business has dropped off over the past two years and we now get only a dribble of new orders. If you buy a shirt and it's somewhat dusty... that's why. So we're going to close down the T-shirt business and, as promised, donate about $1000 to Samba or a Samba-related effort. That means we're having an "Everything Must Go" clearance sale to get rid of what's left. We're going to sell off the remaining T-shirts at a discount price. The kids will still get their allowance, and any additional money will go into the household computer fund (which has made it possible for yours truly to do things like document the CIFS suite). Just to make things fun, we'll throw in a Samba sticker and a
couple of Samba temporary tattoos with every T-shirt.

We do this out of our house. My wife handles the orders and my kids (ages 11 and 13) do the packing and shipping. The volume is fairly low (two or three orders a month) and we consider it part of their homework. It is also one source of their "allowance" (it sure beats cleaning up the yard after the dogs). They each have an account at the Credit Union and have learned how to manage their money, saving up for things they really want, etc.
The more stickers I get printed at any given time, the less it costs per sticker, so I tried to find the balance between enough to keep the cost down and so many I'd have them forever. I got a thousand. I still have a large pile of them.
Since we are having a clearance sale, we figured we'd do two things:

Please do not send cash! We have already had one case of an order 'disappearing' somewhere between overseas and here.
On the order form, we ask for your E'mail address and telephone number. How annoying of us!
We ask for this information so we can contact you if we have a problem with your order. We have run out of some sizes of shirts, or been unable to read handwriting...that sort of thing happens from time to time.
Anyway, once the order gets shipped the order form gets put into a folder in a box at the back of a closet under a pile of shoe boxes that contain things like our telephone bills from 1996. Your information does not go into a database and is not given to anyone else.
The information really is optional, however, so if it bothers you to hand it out...then don't. That's okay with us, but it means that we can't take any responsibility for contacting you in the event of a problem. Ouch.
